Tumbling Along

This month's mystery quilt is quick and fun.  We did two baby size versions using only four blocks in a couple of hours this morning before we opened up the shop. 

Let's get started.

Sew a 1 ½ x 6 ½ inch green strip between a 6 ½  inch square and a 6 ½ x 9 ½ inch rectangle.  Repeat for all 12 blocks.

 

 

Sew a 1 ½ x 9 ½ inch green strip between a 9 ½ inch square and a 6 ½ x 9 ½ inch rectangle.  Repeat for 12 blocks.

 

Sew a 1 ½ x 16 ½ inch strip in between the two units created above.  Repeat to create 12 blocks.

 

Sew a 1 ½ x 16 ½ inch sashing strip between three blocks to form a row.  Turn each block ¼ turn from the previous block. 

 

Create four rows with three blocks in each.  Sew a 1 ½ inch green strip between each row.  Sew a 1 ½ inch green strip all around the quilt.  Follow with the 3 inch final border.

Quilt as desired.  Bind and enjoy!

Candlestick holder

We were getting ready for our annual Shop Hop last week and I needed a large candlestick holder to finish the display for our pumpkin table topper.  I've had this idea in mind for a while that I decided to give a try.  It was a fun project and I am very happy with the results.

All you need is a plate, a sundae cup, glue and spray paint.  (Make sure the Sundae cup has a flat edge, not fluted so you can get a good bond when it is glued to the plate.)

Simply center the Sundae cup on the back of the plate.  Draw around the cup with a permanent marker.  Run a bead of glue (we used goop craft glue) just inside the mark and another around the rim of the Sundae cup.  Allow the glue to set for a minute or two and then press the plate and sundae cup together.  Allow to set for 24 hours and spray paint. 

Easy, and fun!

The Wedding

So several of you, I'm sure, have been on pins and needles anxiously awaiting the day I post photos of the wedding.  Well here you go.

I think the wreath has such an elegant feel to it.  I made it from the pages of old books and pearl beads.  They are simply hot glued to a Styrofoam wreath foundation and hung on an old door. So making the wreath got me thinking... I have fabric,... what would one look like out of fabric. Thus, the bridal bouquet was born.  And the bridesmaid's bouquets as well.  Our daughter loves Pride and Prejudice.  All of the paper roses in her bouquet came from an old copy of her favorite book.

We had so much help from friends and family - especially with the food. 

It was as good as it looks.

 

 

 

You've got to have some fresh flowers at a wedding.  We chose to add a couple of arrangements to the buffet table.  Aren't they beautiful?

 

My brother in law was kind enough to hook up the horse and carriage to help shuttle folks back and forth from their cars.  The wagon ride was enjoyed by many and added a bit of fun to the evening.

 

Another brother in law was kind enough to let us use his back yard for the reception.  He is a natural green thumb.  The whole yard was perfect for the event.

 

 

 

 

 

Our two sons and a friend spent the whole night making Italian sodas for the guests.  They had a good time.  The soda bar added another element of fun to the evening.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And Yes I even made the ties.

 

All in all it was a wonderful day.  We haven't even looked at the disk with all of the photos at the temple yet.  We are looking forward to more but we'll call it good for this blog.  We are so grateful to all of our friends and family who contributed so much to make it such a wonderful day. 

 

The new couple is doing well.
