Becky is working on the next block party which is scheduled to begin August 10th.
Here is a sneak peek at some of the blocks she has created.
As you can see it will be a snowman sampler.
We call it "No People like Snow People".
The block party will be $10.00 to sign up and $5.00 per block.
Hope you can join the fun. Give us a call at 801-465-9133 to sign up.

Hollyhocks - July 2013 mystery quilt
This was a fun and pretty easy quilt to do. We love the brightly colored fabrics.
Follow the printed instructions for cutting. Trim the selvedge carefully to make sure you get all of the needed squares from the width of the fabric.
Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on each of the cream squares. Place one on a corner of a print square with the right sides of the fabric together.
Sew on the drawn line. Repeat on the opposite corner of the print square. Trim ¼ inch from the drawn lines and press the cream back. Repeat to complete 80 squares.

Create
twelve large blocks by sewing four matching squares together.
Create
fourteen half blocks by sewing two matching squares together. You should have 4 single squares remaining. These will be used in the corners.

Sew
the large squares together in four rows of three blocks.
Sew a 1 ½ inch cream strip to the top
and bottom of the quilt.
Sew three of
the half blocks together end to end to create the top border. Repeat for the bottom border. Sew these to the quilt.
Sew a 1 ½
inch strip of cream to both sides of the quilt.
Create the side border by sewing four of the half blocks end to
end.
Sew a 1 ½ x 7 inch cream strip to each end. Sew one of the remaining squares to each end of the row. (Pay special attention to the direction of the blocks to complete the zigzag correctly.)
Sew to the
quilt. Repeat to create the other side
border.

June Mystery Tutorial
Citrus
Summer Cheesecake about 59 x 71
This quilt is an adaptation of Key Lime Cheesecake, a quilt from Becky’s
Book From Cakes to Quilts. We
love the fresh, summery feel – hope you do too.
Match each of the 10 inch squares with another
square with the right sides together and the outside edges aligned. Make sure there is good contrast between the
matching squares.
Draw a diagonal line
on the wrong side of each set.
Sew ¼ inch
on each side of the drawn line.
Cut on
the line and press open.
Match the
resulting squares with opposite fabrics touching and the seams nested
together. Draw a diagonal line
perpendicular to the seam. Sew ¼ inch on
each side of the line and cut on the line.
Press open and square each of these blocks to 9 inches.
Press open and square each of these blocks to 9 inches.
To create the sashing, sew a 1 ¾ inch green strip to the side of a 1 inch yellow strip. Press toward the yellow. Sew a 1 ¾ inch green to the other side and press toward the yellow.
Create 13 of these strips. From each strip cut four segments 9 inches long.
Create the
rows by sewing a sashing strip between four quarter square triangle blocks and
to each end of the resulting row. Press
toward the sashing.
Create 6 of these rows.
Sew the triangle square rows together with a sashing row between each row and to the top and bottom of the quilt.
Sew on the borders. Quilt as desired. Bind and enjoy!
Becky modeling the finished quilt. Which is cuter, the quilt or the coordinating quilter?
The whole quilt so you can see the layout. The colors in real life are much more vibrant. We are still working on the photography part.
These are some of the fabrics planned for the July mystery quilt. The folks at Riley Blake are in the process of moving to a bigger facility so we couldn't verify needed amounts. If these don't work out we will post a new photo on the blog so check back.

Happy quilting!

It's Beehive Buzz time!
We had a great start here at the shop yesterday. Stop on in and pick up your free pattern and swatch buddies starter kit.
Here is a photo of the quilt for our free pattern. The Beehive Shop Hop Association decided each shop would do a nine inch block out of bright, happy solids. We used ombre' solids. I think the finished quilt turned out really fun.
We only used five different fabrics in the quilt but with all the different shades it looks like many more.

May Mystery - "A walk through the Park"
This quilt is simply 5 inch, sashed squares set diagonally. We love the way it turned out. I think the design fits the feel of the fabric well.
Here we go!
Follow the instructions to create the needed rows. Each row will be longer than the previous.
Create a 1 ½ inch sashing strip
and sew underneath rows 1 through 6.
Sew the strip to the top of rows 8 through 13.
Since seam allowances tend to vary, we found it easier to simply create the strip a little longer than the row and then trim it off evenly. Sew a setting triangle to both ends of rows 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, 12, 13 as shown in the diagram. Sew the setting triangles to only one end of rows 5, 6, 8 and 9. Refer to the diagram for correct placement. Sew rows 1 through 6 together. Sew rows 8 through 13 together. Sew these sections to the top and bottom of row 7. Sew the corner units in place.
Here is a detail photo of the applique flowers. (Sorry it is a little fuzzy but it might help with petal placement.)
Have fun!

Here we go!
Refer to the diagram on the back of your instructions. Because of the way the quilt goes together,
the four corner units will be created and then sewn on after the rows are sewn
together.
To create the corner units sew a
1 ½ x 5 inch sashing to the bottom of a 5 inch square.
Sew a setting triangle to each side of the above unit.
Sew one of the small corner triangles to the top. Create four corner
units and set aside.
Create the rows by sewing a
sashing strip between squares.
Sew the 2 inch border strips
around the entire quilt. Since you are
working with a lot of bias at this point, work carefully to avoid ruffling.
We loved the quilt so much we decided to add some more borders so it would be closer to twin size. (We have some border kits if you are interested. They are only $15.37 while they last.) To create the optional borders
sew a 2 1/2 inch print around the entire quilt. Finish with a five inch white final
border. Add appliqué flowers to corners
if desired.
Have fun!

Sample Sale
We have been going through more quilt totes recently as we fight our never-ending battle to become organized. We found some wonderful quilts that we had put away. After some serious pondering, we came to the conclusion that if the quilt hadn't seen the light of day within the last year it may as well go to a home where it can be used and loved and cherished on a daily basis.
So... here are some more quilts available for adoption.
First is a classic little wall hanging to help celebrate the seasons. This one is from an Art to Heart pattern and measures 18 1/2 x 35 inches.
Many of you will recognize the next one as a mystery quilt we did last year. It actually never made it into a tote but we figure we'll save it the grief and send it directly to a loving home. It's a pattern that Becky designed and measures about 56 x72 inches.

The Cheery Cherry Picnic below was one of our favorite mystery quilts. It is now available to brighten your home. It measures about 56 x 68 inches. Don't you love the gently waving borders?
Reg. $200.00
Sale $160.00
The next one is still one of our favorite quilts. We have hung on to it for some time but have never found a place for it to be used. The quilt is from a Quilt In a Day pattern. I think the yellow and teal makes an unexpectedly striking combination and the machine quilting is beautiful. The quilt is about 68 x 82 inches. (The photo doesn't give a great representation of the colors. Come and see it.)

The next quilt is one that Becky designed for her Cakes to Quilts book. It is pieced from a colorful Mary Engelbreit fabric collection. (Again, the colors are much brighter than they appear in the photo.)

Sunflower Farms is a cozy feeling raw edge applique quilt. Another one of our favorites.

We are still not done going through everything so check back in the soon.
