February mystery quilt revealed

The February mystery has been solved!  What an excellent way to welcome Spring.

We added an optional border. 

If you are feeling a little sad that you didn't sign up we have 3 extra kits which include border and binding for only $56.00.

We will be using the Linen and Lawn collection from Riley Blake Designs for the March Mystery Quilt.

We are so excited to welcome our daughter home from her mission tomorrow.  Many of you know we have been working on redecorating her room.  A few of you have asked to see how it turned out so we are posting a photo.  She really likes blue so we painted the walls a light blue.  We enjoy finding new uses for old things.  Her headboard is a door from Kelly's family home.  The window frame behind the wreath was from the same home.  A couple of old desk drawers became a nightstand.  The rag rug is from a lot of leftover binding strips as well as a couple of old sheets.  The room turned out very calm and relaxing.

Bee Haven photo

Some of you have been waiting for a photo of the Bee Haven quilt we did as a block party last year.

Well, the quilt is finally finished so we are posting a photo for reference as you work on putting it together.  (Congratulations to those who have already finished it!)

Second Saturday Sampler block 12

For the block you will need:

8) 4" white squares
4) 4" pink squares
4) 4" red squares

Draw a diagonal line on the back of each of the 4" white squares.

Place each of the red and pink squares (right sides together and outside edges aligned) with one of the  marked white squares.

Sew 1/4" on each side of the drawn line.  Cut on the line and square to 3 1/2".  Press toward the print.

Use the photo above to arrange and sew the pieces to create the block.


Thanks for participating in our Second Saturday Sampler series.  This is the last block for this quilt.  If you need finishing fabrics just let us know.  We have fabric left to do a few finishing kits.

If you got the finishing kit but not the instructions give us a call and we can email them to you.  We will be closed the week of Feb. 6 -10 to participate in an off site quilt retreat so it would be best to call next week.

We are planning an all new quilt to begin the second Saturday in April.  We will post details later.

January mystery quilt and other

The mystery is over.  Here is a photo of the January mystery quilt.

We are really happy with the way it turned out.  Hope you like it.

Just a little reminder.  This Friday is the first Friday of the Month.  We have added fabrics to the shelf for the $5.55 sale.  Among them are fabrics we used for the current buck a block quilt.  If you need backing it's a great way to get it.

The photo below pictures the fabric collection we have planned for the February mystery quilt.  Give us a call to reserve yours.

 And lastly - we have the opportunity to participate in a quilting retreat next week (Feb. 6 -10).  As a result the shop will be closed Tues. through Saturday.  We appreciate your business and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Since the 10th is the second Saturday that we would normally pass out the buck a block kits - we are planning on having them ready a week early.  Or you can pick them up the week following Feb. 10th.

Second Saturday Sampler block 11

For the block you will need:

4) 4" white squares
4) 3 1/2" white squares
4) 4" green squares
4 4" yellow squares

Draw a diagonal line on the back of each of the 4" white squares and 2 of the 4" yellow squares.

Place two of the green squares (right sides together and outside edges aligned) with the two marked yellow squares.

Sew 1/4" on each side of the drawn line.  Cut on the line and square to 3 1/2".  Press toward the green.

Place the remaining two yellow squares and two green squares with the four white squares.  Create 4 yellow 3 1/2" half square triangles and 4 green 3 1/2" half square triangles.

Use the photo above to arrange and sew the pieces to create the block. 

We have one block left to finish up this quilt.  Please note - we will be closed for a retreat the second week in February.  We will have the blocks ready the first Saturday in February or you may pick them up after the second week.

Heart and Home block 5 correction

We have discovered an error in the cutting instructions for block 5 of the Heart and Home quilt.  The second line in cutting the house should read 2) 2" x 5"  instead of 2) 2" x 2 1/2".

We apologize for the error and hope we caught it before you got your fabric cut. 

If you have already cut the fabric please come and get a piece the correct size.

December Mystery quilt

So sorry!  We rushed right in to the Christmas Holidays and forgot to post a photo of the December Mystery Quilt. 

So.... here it is.

The beautiful home spun fabrics from Moda lend themselves nicely to the simple patchwork pattern.  We backed the quilt with a soft green minky fabric.  What a cuddle quilt this turned out to be.

We are planning the January mystery quilt using the Callington Mill collection from Penny Rose fabrics.

Becky has planned a pretty traditional quilt for January.
