July mystery

The July mystery kits are ready.

We have coordinating flannel backing available while it lasts.

Note: We discovered an error in our cutting instructions.  For the final border you should cut 7)5" strips (not 5 1/2" mentioned in some of the instructions).  Sorry for the error.

We will be using a layer cake from the Market Street collection for the August mystery quilt.

Call us at 801-465-9133 to reserve your kit.

Thanks for your support!

Country Summer (2024 block of the month)

Block 2

The pineapple has been displayed in homes and used in quilts for decades as a symbol of hospitality and generosity.

Cutting:

Background:
    16) 2 1/2" squares
    2) 3" squares
Yellow:
    10) assorted 2 1/2" x 8 1/2" strips ( you will need to provide 2 of these)
Reserve any leftovers for 2 1/2" inch scrappy sashing squares
Green:
    2) 2 1/2" x 8 1/2" strips
    2) 3" squares (Your kit includes enough green for one of these sets. Cut the other from your scraps.)
Save leftover fabric to cut 2 1/2" squares for sashing.

Sewing:
Draw a diagonal line on the back of 12 of the 2 1/2" background squares as well as the 2) 3" background squares.

Place a 3" background square with  a 3" green square making sure the outside edges are aligned and the right sides are facing.  Sew 1/4" on each side of the drawn line.  Cut on the line.  Trim the resulting half-square triangles to 2 1/2".  Repeat with the other 3" background and green squares.

Place a 2 1/2" background square on one end of a 2 1/2" green strip.  Sew on the drawn line.  Trim 1/4" from the sewn line.  Repeat on the other end making sure the angle of the drawn lines are positioned correctly to create the pineapple top.  (Refer to the photo above.)  Repeat using the second green strip.

Repeat this process using four yellow strips to create the top and bottom rows of the pineapples.

Sew 2 (matching) green half-square triangles together as seen in the photo above to create the pineapple top.  Sew a 2 1/2" background square to each end of this unit.  Repeat for the other pineapple.

Sew 5 of the yellow strips together to create the body of the pineapple.  (Refer to the photo to make sure the top and bottom angles are positioned correctly.) Repeat to create the other pineapple.

Sew the pineapples side by side.

This pineapple reminded us of some yummy chicken-pineapple tacos that our daughter-in-law made for us.  Here is the link for the recipe and instructions. Enjoy!
