Blooms on the Bricks tutorial

The mystery quilt this month is really pretty simple.  Have fun!

Begin by sewing each of the 6 1/2 by fabric width prints to a 3 1/2 x fabric width white.  Press toward the prints.  Subcut each of the sewn strips into (12) 3 1/2 inch sections.  (Trim the selvedge carefully to make sure you get all 12.

Randomly sew these units end to end in rows of 6.  Keep the white in the same position.  Press toward the print fabrics.  Create 18 rows.

Sew the rows together, alternating the direction every other row to offset the bricks.

Measure the width of your quilt.  Create the needed length for the applique rows from the six inch white strips.  Applique the flowers as desired.  We did a simple raw edge applique.  Simply glue the pieces in place with Elmer's washable school glue.  When the glue has dried sew a scant quarter inch from the edge of each of the pieces.

Sew the applique sections to the top and bottom of the quilt.

Sew the 4 inch border strips all around the quilt.

Quilt as desired.  Bind and enjoy!

Note: If you desire a larger quilt simply add another 6 inch border all the way around.  The quilt should finish about 72 x 83 1/2 inches (close to twin).

Here is a peek at next month's fabrics (Vintage baby by Riley Blake).

More sample quilts for sale

Becky just went through her totes again.  We found some more quilts she has decided she can part with (for a small fee of course.)  I think most of the quilts are actually less than you would pay if you were to buy the fabric and pay for the quilting.  Anyway, give us a call if you see something you are interested in.

We just spent a week at Winter Quilt Retreat at Ruby's Inn by Bryce Canyon.  It was a wonderful working getaway.  Bonnie Miles, who organizes the retreat does such a wonderful job!  We forgot to take the camera, however, so we have no photos to share.

For those of you who haven't heard,  we will be offering two block party quilts beginning Feb. 23.  You don't have to choose, you can do them both!

One is a ten session sampler quilt using the new "Prairie Rose" line from Riley Blake fabrics.  Here is a photo of the quilt.  (As usual, our photos don't do it justice.)

The sign up fee is $25.00 and then $5.00 per session.  There will be 10 sessions to complete this quilt.  The cost includes borders.

We will, of course, have some binding and hopefully backing fabrics for you to purchase to finish your quilt.

Several of you have mentioned that you would like a little larger quilt.  We are planning an enlargement kit that will take the quilt to Queen size.  (Still running the numbers so we don't know the price yet...stay tuned.)

The other quilt will be the a Noah's ark themed quilt.  We may end up building it together as we go because we are still trying to find the right fabrics but it will be cute.  It will also be a $25.00 sign up fee and $5.00 per session.

Give us a call if you would like to do either or both!  The number is 801-465-9133.  We look forward to hearing from you!

We have some more sample quilts for sale.  We will post pictures in the coming days.

Happy Valentines day tomorrow!

Block correction - Letters to My Daughter

It was brought to our attention that we goofed again.

The cutting instructions for session 13 of Letters to My Daughter should read:

Cutting:

Background -    8) 2 x 3 ½ inch rectangles
2) 5 inch square for half square triangles
2) 3 ½ inch squares
                            2) 6 inch square for flying geese
Grey-                  2) 5 inch square
Grey flower -    8) 2 inch squares
                            2) 4 1/2 inch squares
Yellow              8) 2 inch squares

The last paragraph before assembly should read:

Center the 4 ½ inch grey flower  square in the center of the 6 inch background square.  Follow the directions from session 6 to create eight flying geese.  Square to the 1 ½ x 3 inch finished size.

Some of you may need additional fabric to finish these blocks.  We will be at a retreat until next week.  Check with us then if you find you need addional fabric.
So sorry for the extra trouble

Have a great day!

Letters to My Daughter

Here is a photo of Letters to My Daughter for those of you who have requested it.

Have fun putting it all together!

Just realized we mislead you with the finishing instructions.  There are 11 rows, we only had you do 10.  (We know you would have figured it out.)

Thanks,
The Morgansons
