Becky found an idea on pinterest the other day that she fell in love with.  Since we have a couple of daughters that needed a place to hang their Christmas stockings they all got together for a little Mother/Daughter craft day and each re created the pinterest idea as well as several other crafts.  They had a great time.  Following is a photo of the project all ready and waiting to hang the Christmas stockings on.

It's amazing what you can create with a little time and some leftover framing materials!

They each created a set of these fun holiday throw pillows as well.  I think a good time was had by all.

Hope you have a wonderful holiday season.

Heart and Home block party

Heart and Home (our fall block party) will begin this Saturday, November 4.

This will be a celebration of a milestone for us as we celebrate 20 years in business.  This was the first block party we ever created after adding fabric to our frame shop.

The blocks will be offered in country colors similar to the ones in the photo or a little brighter feel as you see the house block is done in.

The best part for you is that you can get all 12 blocks for only $20.00!

If you haven't already signed up give us a call and let us know which color way you prefer.  Our number is 801-465-9133.  (Some of you have signed up but didn't specify a color choice.  Please call us and let us know your color preference so we can prepare the kits.)

We are planning a short demo at 10:00 a.m. each block party Saturday. A different block will be passed out every other Saturday morning with a short break during the Christmas Holidays.

Gather your friends and come join us as we begin this Saturday.

Mystery fabric change

The August mystery quilt was originally planned using a variety of blue and green fabrics.  We ordered the fabrics and thought all was well.  When the shipment arrived it was missing a few key pieces that are no longer available.  We have switched to the fabrics pictured below for the August mystery quilt.  We think they are even cuter than the original plan.

Some of you had signed up for the August Mystery with the blue and green fabrics in mind.  If the fabrics above don't appeal to you we are happy to apply the fee to a future mystery kit or issue a refund.  Please give us a call.

Thanks so much Kelly & Becky

Oops - we made some mistakes

If you are working on the "Bee Haven" block party quilt we need to notify you of a couple of corrections.

1. Session Five - the beehive
The cutting instructions on the 2nd row should read:
            2nd row - 2) 3" x 6 3/4",  (not 6 1/2")

2. Session Six - if you have picked up your kit you need to know we miscalculated the gray honeycomb fabric.  There was not enough included in the kit.  Please stop by at your convenience and we will have the additional fabric for you.

(For those who have not picked up the kits yet we will have the fabric added.)

So sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Thanks,
Kelly & Becky

June mystery quilt

This month's quilt was inspired by another block we recently completed for our "Bee Haven" block party quilt.

We loved the way it turned out and decided it would be fun to see in different colors.

And it was fun to see!

The pattern calls for top and bottom borders of white.  We didn't add them for the photo because we plan to enlarge the quilt to twin size.

The quilt is not difficult to make but it did take a little more time to complete than some of our monthly mystery quilts.  So we are going to walk you through the blossom making process.  It is really just a dresden plate in two colors.

First - sew the 3 1/4 inch print strip to a 3 1/4 inch red strip.

Create a template using the diagram included with the pattern.  Carefully cut the wedges alternating the direction of the template.  You will need 32 wedges for each blossom.  Your kit includes an extra print square to create the 32nd wedge.  Make sure you have 16 of each direction to complete the blossom properly.

Fold the wedges in half along the length with the right sides facing.  Sew 1/4 inch along the wider end.

Snip the corner to eliminate bulk.

Turn the wedge inside out, making sure the corner is completely turned to properly complete the point.

Press and sew the wedges together.  It is important to use an accurate 1/4 inch seam allowance so the completed blossoms lie flat.  (A little bit of Best Press or other spray starch may come in handy.)  Make sure the print and red sections alternate properly.

Use a little dab of washable school glue on each tip to hold in place on the background square.  Stitch to secure.  Applique the circle in the center to finish the block.  Create 9 blocks.

We used pre-printed squares for the sashing strips.  Make sure you cut exactly between the rows of  squares from selvedge to selvedge.

Follow the instructions in the pattern to complete the quilt.

Join us next month for a little puppy love.

These are a few of the fabrics we will be using.  Others will be added.
Give us a call -801-465-9133.

"Bee Haven" - 2017 block party begins this Saturday

We will be starting the first session of our new block party this Saturday (April 29th).  Many of you have signed up without knowing the details.  Thanks for your support.  The quilt is not yet complete but we have a few of the blocks to show.  Hopefully, you can get the feel of the quilt from the photos below.

Becky is creating a series of random sized blocks that will be pieced together with scrappy connecting patchwork.  The quilt uses the wonderful "Bee Inspired" line from Moda fabrics.

We will be constructing a new block every other Saturday.  Cost will be $15.00 to sign up and $7.00 per session with 12 sessions planned. Those who sign up and pay the $15.00 fee by this Saturday, April 29, will receive the first block free!  Since the quilt is not yet complete we are unsure of the finished dimension but are planning for it to be about full size.  Borders are not included in the cost but will be available while fabric lasts at an additional charge.

So bee inspired to spread the buzz and gather your friends to our hive on Saturday.  We'll all have a honey of a time as we create a bee-u-tiful project together.

March 2017 Mystery Quilt

2017 Second Saturday Sampler - Block 1

Thanks so much for joining us for the 2017 Second Saturday Sampler (Buck a block) quilt.  I don't know about you but I think the only thing more exciting than beginning a fun new quilt would be completing the fun new quilt.  So let's get started!

Block one is created with 16 half square triangle patches.

2017 Second Saturday Sampler (Block 1)
Your kit includes:
8) white 4" squares
6) green 4" squares
2) yellow 4" squares

Begin by drawing a diagonal line on the back of each of the eight white squares.

Place a white square with one of the print squares making sure the right sides are facing and the outside edges are aligned.

Sew 1/4 inch on each side of the drawn line.

Cut on the line.

Repeat, matching all of the white squares with one of the print squares.

Square the half square triangle patches to 3 1/2 inches.  (Most of you know we love the Quilt in a Day triangle square up ruler for this task.)

Clip the excess fabric at each end of the seam allowance to eliminate bulk.

Press the squares toward the print fabrics.

Arrange and sew the patches together as shown in the photo above.

Completed block should measure 12 1/2" x 12 1/2".

New Buck a Block starting this Saturday

Thanks to all who participated in our Buck a Block program last year.  We will begin a new Buck a Block this Saturday (March 11).  We apologize for the delay but are so excited to finally get started.  A few of the blocks are shown below.

We are planning to sash with the yellow and finish the quilt with a pieced winding ribbon border.  We hope to have the finished quilt ready to display this Saturday.

The best part is - it is only one dollar per block.  (That's a pretty cheap fix!)
We have created a total of 12 blocks.  A new block will be available the second Saturday of each month.

You can use your imagination to set the blocks anyway your heart desires.  If you love it like we do it, finishing kits will be available.  Pricing for the finishing kits will be available on Saturday.

We are cutting blocks this week so give us a call  (801-465-9133) so we can have yours ready to pick up on Saturday.

See you Saturday.  Bring a friend.  We are planning refreshments, sales on select items and a special demo.
