Blooms on the Bricks tutorial

The mystery quilt this month is really pretty simple.  Have fun!

Begin by sewing each of the 6 1/2 by fabric width prints to a 3 1/2 x fabric width white.  Press toward the prints.  Subcut each of the sewn strips into (12) 3 1/2 inch sections.  (Trim the selvedge carefully to make sure you get all 12.

Randomly sew these units end to end in rows of 6.  Keep the white in the same position.  Press toward the print fabrics.  Create 18 rows.

Sew the rows together, alternating the direction every other row to offset the bricks.

Measure the width of your quilt.  Create the needed length for the applique rows from the six inch white strips.  Applique the flowers as desired.  We did a simple raw edge applique.  Simply glue the pieces in place with Elmer's washable school glue.  When the glue has dried sew a scant quarter inch from the edge of each of the pieces.

Sew the applique sections to the top and bottom of the quilt.

Sew the 4 inch border strips all around the quilt.

Quilt as desired.  Bind and enjoy!

Note: If you desire a larger quilt simply add another 6 inch border all the way around.  The quilt should finish about 72 x 83 1/2 inches (close to twin).

Here is a peek at next month's fabrics (Vintage baby by Riley Blake).
