December mystery quilt(s)

 

We hope you had a wonderful Christmas.  We were grateful to take a few days off and be with family.

December's mystery kits are ready to be picked up.  We opted for a project that can be completed fairly quickly.  I think both versions turned out great.

Here is a photo of the quilt using the Tea with Bea collection.

And here is one from the "At the Lake" collection.

As usual, we have some coordinating binding and backing fabrics available while they last.

With the busyness of the holidays, we have not yet selected fabric for the January mystery quilt so keep and eye on the blog site.  We will post photos as soon as we are able.

We will be closed this Friday and Saturday as we celebrate the arrival of the New Year.

Second Saturday Sampler block 8

 

For this block you will need:

4) 4" light squares

4) 4" black squares

4) 3 1/2" black squares

2) 1 x 6 1/2" green strips

2) 1 x 5 1/2" strips

1) 5 1/2" green and white check

rose gold for flower applique

black floral for applique

Sew a 1 x 5 1/2 inch green strip to opposite sides of the green and white checked center square.  Press. Sew the 1 x 6 1/2 inch green strips to the remaining sides of the square.

Draw a diagonal line on the back of each of the 4 inch light squares.  Place one of these with a 4 inch black square, making sure the rights sides are together and the outside edges are aligned.  Sew 1/4 inch on each side of the line.  Cut on the line.  Square to 3 1/2 inches. Repeat to create 8) half square triangle patches.  Use the photo as a guide to assemble the block.  

Finish the block by attaching the flower using the applique method of your choice.

November Mystery Quilt

 

We have the mystery kits ready a little early this month. You are welcome to stop by and pick them up.

It turned out very cheery!

Just so you are aware - we will close a little early Wednesday before Thanksgiving and will be closed through the holiday weekend.

We are offering two choices for the December mystery quilt.  You can choose At the Lake or Tea with Bea.  Just let us know which you prefer.  We have another great layer cake quilt planned.

Second Saturday Sampler block 7

 

For this block you will need:

4) 4" background squares

4) 4" green print squares

4)3 1/2" green print squares

2) 3" pink print squares

2) 3" green plus squares

4) 2 1/2" green plus squares 

1) 2 1/2 " pink square

Draw a diagonal line on the back of each of the 4" background squares.  Place each of these with a 4" print square making sure the right sides are together and the outside edges are aligned.  Sew 1/4 inch on each side of the line.  Cut on the line.  Trim the resulting half square triangles to measure 3 1/2 inches.

Repeat the process using the 3" pink and green squares to create 4) half square triangles.  Trim to measure 2 1/2 inches.

Refer to the photo below to assemble the block.

First Friday

We hope you are all well and good.  We find it hard to believe that the holiday season is already upon us.

Just wanted to remind you that tomorrow (Nov. 5) is the first Friday of the month.  Becky is moving fabric to get ready for the Five fifty five sale.  Come and see if there might be something you can use.  

We will also be offering 20% off of all pre-cuts in the shop (excluding those in kits).

We will be closed Saturday, November 6th to participate in our grandson's baptism.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

October mystery quilt

 

The October mystery quilt kits are ready.

It's a pretty simple sew using the pre-cut squares.  We love the soothing colors in this collection.

We will be using a layer cake of Beautiful Day for the November mystery quilt.

Second Sat. Sampler block 6

 

For block 6 you will need:

4) 4inch green leaf squares

4) 3 1/2 inch green leaf squares

4) 4 inch white background squares

2) 4 inch pink floral squares

2) 4 inch green script squares

Draw a diagonal line on the back of each of the 4 inch white background squares.  Match each of these with a 4 inch green leaf square making sure the outside edges are aligned and the right sides are together.  Sew 1/4 inch on each side of the drawn line.  Cut on the line.  Square to 3 1/2 inches and press toward the green.  

Repeat the process using the 4 inch pink and green script squares.

Assemble as shown in the photo below.

September Mystery Quilt revealed

 

The September mystery quilt is ready for pick up.  Come and get'em.

This quilt is easily created from pre-cut 2 1/2 inch strips.  The optional border uses an additional yard of fabric.  We have it available in black (as shown) or the same print with a white background for only $9.99 while supplies last.

The October mystery quilt will be created using pre-cut 10 inch squares from the Gingham Garden collection by Riley Blake Designs.

Space is limited so sign up soon.

This Friday is the first Friday of October.  We will have select fabric on sale for only $5.55 per yard and some minkey for $6.50 per yard.  Get it while it lasts.

Second Sat. Sampler block 5

 

For block 5 you will need:

4) 4 inch pink squares

4) 3 1/2 inch pink squares

1) 4 1/2 inch light square 

4) 4 inch light green squares

2) 1 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch green strips

2) 1 1/2 x 6 1/2 inch green strips

assorted floss

stitching pattern

This is one of our favorite blocks in the quilt.  It will be easiest to create the block before doing the stitching so it will fit in the hoop better.  

Begin the block by sewing the 1 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch green strips to opposite sides of the 4 1/2 inch light square.  Sew the 1 1/2 x 6 1/2 inch green strips to the remaining sides of the square.

Draw a diagonal line on the back of each of the 4 inch light green squares.  Match each of the light green squares with a four inch pink square making sure the outside edges are aligned and the right sides are together.  Sew 1/4 inch on each side of the drawn line.  Cut on the line.  Square to 3 1/2 inches and press toward the pink.

Assemble the parts as shown in the photo below.

Trace the heart onto the center of the block with a lead pencil.  The stitching is done with two strands of floss.  We used a lazy daisy stitch, french knots, backstitch on the vines and lettering and a few spider web roses.  A detail of the heart is shown below.

August Mystery quilt revealed

 This one is a fun and done kind of quilt.  It is created using 9) one half yard cuts and uses the fabric really well with hardly any waste.  We added borders as we plan on using it as a gift for one of our daughters to brighten her bedroom.

Becky is planning a quilt using precut 2 1/2 inch strips from the Ava Kate collection for the September mystery.  It will have optional borders.

This Friday is the first Friday of the month.  We have added fabric to the $5.55 shelf.  We will also have a limited amount of dimple minkey for only $6.50 per yard while it lasts.

Lastly - we are having a clearance (sidewalk) sale through the end of the week.  Stop by and check it out.

Second Sat. Sampler block 4

For block 4 you will need:

4) 4 inch green squares

4) 4 inch pink squares

2) 4 inch green floral squares

2) 4 inch rose gold squares

4) 3 1/2 inch green squares

Draw a diagonal line on the back of all of the 4 inch pink squares.  Match each of the pink squares with a four inch green square making sure the outside edges are aligned and the right sides are together.  Sew 1/4 inch on each side of the drawn line.  Cut on the line.  Square to 3 1/2 inches and press toward the green.

Repeat the half square triangle process using the 4 inch green floral and rose gold squares.

Arrange the half square triangles and 3 1/2 inch green squares as seen in the photo below to complete the block.

July Mystery quilt

 

The quilt turned out great!

Second Sat. Sampler block 3

 

For block three you will need:

4) 4 inch black squares

4) 4 inch light squares

4) 3 1/2 inch black squares

1) 2 1/2 x 10 inch green check

1) 2 1/2 x 12 1/2 black floral

 

Cut a 2 1/2 inch square from the black 2 1/2 inch strip.  

Sew the remaining 2 1/2 inch black strip to the 2 1/2 inch green check strip along the length of the strips.

Press toward the black.

Cut 4) 2 1/2 inch sections from the sewn strips.

Arrange the sections and the 2 1/2 inch black square and sew together to create the center nine-patch as shown.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Draw a diagonal line on the back of all of the 4 inch light squares.

Match the light squares with the 4 inch black squares making sure the right sides are together and the outside edges are aligned.

Sew 1/4 inch on both sides of the drawn line.

Cut on the line.

June Mystery

 

 

Tomorrow (June 29)  is mystery quilt day.  It is also Becky's birthday so we will have some birthday cake.  Come celebrate with us.

The quilt reminds me of festive holiday ornaments hidden in the branches of a beautiful evergreen tree. 

July mystery fabrics will pull from the  "Seeds of Time" collection by Buttermilk Basin designs for Riley Blake Fabrics.

2) 4 inch green floral

4) 4 inch light squares

4) 4 inch green squares

4) 3 1/2 inch green squares

 

Draw a diagonal line on the back of all of the 4 inch light squares and the pink plaid squares.

Match the light squares with the 4 inch green squares making sure the right sides are together and the outside edges are aligned.

Sew 1/4 inch on both sides of the drawn line.

Cut on the line.

Square to 3 1/2 inches and press toward the green.

Repeat the half square triangle creating process using the pink plaid with the green floral 4 inch squares to create 4) half square triangles.

We celebrated the marriage of our youngest son the last part of May.  They were married in the beautiful Payson temple.  We were able to travel to Midleton Idaho for the reception.  It was a memorable event.  Congratulations Emma and Hunter!

2021 Second Sat. sampler block 1

For block one you will need:

1) 4 1/2 inch black and white plaid square

2) 1 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch green strips

2) 1 1/2 x 6 1/2 inch green strips

4) 4 inch light squares

4) 4 inch pink floral squares

4) 3 1/2 inch pink floral squares

 

Sew the 1 1/2 inch green strips to the black and white plaid square to create a border.

Draw a diagonal line on the back of all of the 4 inch light squares.

Match the light squares with the 4 inch pink squares making sure the right sides are together and the outside edges are aligned.

Sew 1/4 inch on both sides of the drawn line.

Cut on the line.

Square to 3 1/2 inches and press toward the pink.

A few reminders

 This Friday, May 7th will be our monthly $5.55 first Friday sale.  We have plumped up the shelf with some new fabrics.

Also - the 2021 Second Saturday Sampler will begin this Saturday (May 8th).  Block one will be available for pick up at that time.  (A reminder - we close at 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays.)  We are excited to begin a new journey and would like to thank you for participating.  We still have a limited number of slots left if you would like to participate but have not yet signed up.  

Becky has completed the quilt top and hopefully it will be quilted soon.  We will have some finishing kits available Saturday if you would like to finish yours like we have ours.  The kits will be available on a first come basis while supplies last.  The finishing kits will be $75.95.
