Block 3
Cutting:
Background - 12 1/2" x 12 1/2"
Border strips - 4) 2 1/2" x 12 1/2"
Corner squares - 4) 2 1/2" squares
Use the template to cut 8 wedges. (You will provide fabric for 3 of these as well as the center circle.)
Sewing:
Use an accurate 1/4" seam throughout.
Sew the wedges, side by side, to create the large circle.
We appliqued the circle using fusible interfacing. To accomplish this, place the right side of the fabric circle against the fusible side of the interfacing. Sew 1/4 inch from the outside edge of the fabric. Trim about 1/4" from the sewn line. Turn right side out through the hole in the center.
To create the center circle, trace the small circle shape on the wrong side of fusible interfacing. Place the fusible side of the interfacing against the right side of the fabric. Sew on the traced line. Cut a scant 1/4" from the outside of the drawn line. Cut a small slit in the interfacing and turn right side out.
Place the large circle in the center of the background fabric. To help position it correctly you can fold the background fabric in half and finger press along the fold. Repeat to create another line going the other way. Center the large circle using the folded lines as guides. Press to activate the fusible. Place the small circle in the center of the large one and press in place. Stitch to secure in place.
Sew a 2 1/2" strip to the top and bottom of the block.
Sew a 2 1/2" square to each end of the two remaining strips. Sew these strips to the sides of the block.
