Country Summer (2024 Second Sat. Sampler)

Block 7 - Hearts

To create the two hearts you will need:

8) 2" x 6 1/2" background strips (light prints) to border the hearts
8) 2" squares (yellow gingham) for block cornerstones
8) 2 1/2" squares (plain background) for half square triangles
4) 2" squares (plain background)
8) 2 1/2" print squares ( half square triangles)
12) 2" print squares
2 different prints cut 3 1/2" x 9 1/2" (filler strips on one side of each block)

 Sewing:
Draw a diagonal line on the back of each of the 2 1/2" plain background squares.

Match each of these with a 2 1/2" print square making sure the outside edges are aligned and the right sides are facing.  Sew 1/4" on both sides of the drawn line.  Cut on the line.  Square to 2" and press toward the print. Create 16) 2" half-square triangles.

Use the photo above to arrange and sew the 1/2 square triangles and 2" print squares to create the two hearts.

Sew a 2" x 6 1/2" background strip to each side of both heart blocks.

Sew a 2" yellow gingham square to both ends of the remaining 2" x 6 1/2" background strips. Sew these to the top and bottom of the heart squares.

Sew a 3 1/2" x 9 1/2" print to the right side of one block and the left side of the other block.  Sew the heart squares together vertically to create the block.

Sew 6) 2 1/2" squares together and sew to the bottom of the block.  Sew the heart block to the bottom of block 6.
