Country Summer - Second Sat. Sampler

Block 12 - the last one

They say, "Time flies when you're having fun". We must have had a lot of fun because the last 12 months have come and gone so quickly. Thanks for accompanying us on this quilting journey.

For this block you will need:

12) 2 ½” red squares

24) 2 ½” background squares

8) 2 ½" x 4 ½" green

4) 2 ½" x 4 ½" (You provide these, use your choice of color. They are the gold check in photo.)

4) 4 ½” black, check squares

1) 4 ½” gray square

Sewing:
Draw a diagonal line on the back of 16) 2 1/2" background squares.

Place a background square on the end of a 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" green rectangle with the right sides together and the outside edges aligned.  Sew on the line.  Trim 1/4" from the sewn line and press.  Create 4 units with the angles facing this direction.

Create 4 more units with the angles on the opposite side.

 Use 2) 2 1/2" red squares and 2) 2 1/2" background squares to create 4) four-patch units.

Use two of the green units, a four-patch, and an additional red 2 1/2" square to create 4 of the units shown below.

Place a 2 1/2" background square (with the drawn diagonal line) on a corner of a 4 1/2" black check square. Make sure the right sides are together and the outside edges are aligned with the drawn line going from edge to edge. Sew on the line.  Trim 1/4" from the line and press back.  Repeat on the other corner of the check square.

Create 4 of these units.

Sew a 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangle to the pointed side of each of these units.

Use the photo at the top to arrange the components and sew the block together.

Sew the block to the bottom of the house row.

Sew 36)  2 1/2" scrappy squares into a row.  Sew these to the right side of the last column.  Sew this column to the rest of the quilt.

To border the quilt we cut a 2" first border and a 6" final border.

If, by chance, you can't find anything in your stash to border the quilt we have the yardage we used available.

We appreciate your participation in our Second Saturday Sampler.  Becky's imagination has been working overtime to prepare the next quilt.  It isn't quite complete but it is well on its way. See the photo (below) of the first few rows to give you an idea of what's going on. I think it will be amazing.

We are calling it, "From My Front Porch".

This Sampler will begin the second Saturday in June (the 16th) and will continue the second Saturday of each month for 12 months. There will be a $10.00 sign up fee and and then $6.00 per session. (Each session will include multiple blocks.)

Come join the fun! Call us at 801-465-9133 to reserve your space.
