Becky has done it again! I think this month's mystery quilt turned out really nice. We added the borders just in time this morning.
The quilt is created with simple four patches and half square triangles and a little sashing. Hope you enjoy it.
Sewing:
Create the four patches by sewing
each of the 9) 2 ½ inch strips to a 2 ½ inch background strip. Press toward the print.
Cut each set into 16) 2 ½ inch segments.
Randomly sew the segments in sets of two in
order to create 72) four patch units.
To create the half square
triangles match the 10 inch background squares with the 10 inch blue and dark
pink print squares with right sides facing.
Draw two diagonal lines on the back of the cream squares. Sew ¼ inch on both sides of the lines.
Cut on the lines and through the center of
the 10 inch square horizontally and vertically.
Trim each ½ square triangle to 4 ½ inches and press toward the print fabric. (We love the triangle square up ruler by Quilt in a Day for this task.)
Trim each ½ square triangle to 4 ½ inches and press toward the print fabric. (We love the triangle square up ruler by Quilt in a Day for this task.)
Not the right measurements but you get the idea. |
You will need 36 blue half square
triangles and 36 pink half square triangles.
Sew a blue and a pink half square triangle with two four patch units to
create 36 blocks.
Create
the large blocks by sewing four blocks together with sashing and a corner stone. You will need nine big blocks.
Sew the big blocks into 3 rows of
3 blocks with the 18 ½ inch sashing strips between each of the blocks. Create
two sashing rows with two cornerstones in each to connect the rows.
Sew the 2 ½ inch border strips to
each side and the 5 inch border strips to the top and bottom.
Quilt as desired. Bind and enjoy!
Watch for the January mystery fabrics. We will post a photo as soon as we can.
