August Mystery

You could do almost anything with this beautiful collection of fabrics and it would turn out well.  I think Becky's creation hits the mark.  Get ready to create some half square triangles!

Follow the directions for cutting in the pattern.  To create the half square triangles match two of the squares with right sides together. (Try for a little contrast between the fabrics.)  Draw a diagonal line on the back of one of the fabrics.

(the photo is not great, but you can see the line.)

Sew 1/4 inch on each side of the line and then cut on the line.

Square each triangle to 4 1/2 inches.  (We love the 6 1/2 inch triangle square up ruler for this task.  Make sure to place the 4 1/2 inch mark on the stitch line.)

Trim the corners to eliminate bulk at the intersections.

Press the triangles open.

Repeat to create a total of 192 half square triangle blocks.

Sew the half square triangles into sets of four.  Make sure the angles are all running the same direction.  Becky placed all of the darkest triangles in the bottom position.

Sew a sashing strip between 6 blocks to form a row.

Create 8 rows.

Sew green corner squares between sashing strips to create the sashing rows.

Create 7 sashing rows and sew between each of the block rows.

Sew the 2" inch border strips all around the quilt.

We chose to add an optional final border as shown in the photo below.

Quilt as desired.  Bind and enjoy!

We are considering a Christmas themed quilt for September.  We will post the fabrics as soon as we finalize them  so stay tuned!
