October Mystery Quilt

Follow the instructions for cutting.

Draw a diagonal line on the back of each of the 2 1/4 inch off white and coral squares.  Place three off white squares on three corners of each of the 6 inch print squares.  Place a coral square on the remaining corner.  Sew on the drawn lines.

Trim 1/4 inch from the sewn line.

Press the corners back.

Repeat to create 48 squares.

Sew 4 matching squares together to create a block.  Make sure the coral triangles all meet in the middle.

Create 12 blossoms.

Border each of the blocks with the off white strips.  Blocks should measure 13 1/2 inches square.

We used the remaing prints to create a scrappy sashing.  Cut the prints into random lengths 3 inches wide.  Sew end to end.  (We decided to use cornerstones so we didn't get odd looking seams at the intersections.)  You will need 6) three inch squares for the corner stones.  From the joined sashing strips cut 17) 13 1/2 inch lengths.

Arrange the blocks into 4 rows with three blocks in each row.  Sew a 13 1/2 inch sashing strip between each block.  Sew 2 corner stone squares between 3)13 1/2 inch sashing strips.  (Create 3 of these strips.)  Sew a sashing strip between each of the rows.

Border the entire quilt with the remaining scrappy sashing strips.

Kinda cute, don't you think?  At this point the quilt measures about 49" x 64".  If you add the optional borders as shown below it is about 60 1/2" by 76".
